Remember when your mom said “watch your mouth or I’ll wash it out with soap” well apparently for 12% of Americans, that threat became a real punishment for bad behavior!

When I was a kid, if I said a bad word, punishment consisted of a spanking or a timeout, we only ever heard of mouths washed out with soap in movies, and our friends parents.

“A poll asked people if they’ve ever actually had their parents follow through with washing their mouth out with soap, and about 12% of people said YES.”

One person was quoted saying, ““My mom tried to do it with my sister, and she bit down on the bar and swallowed part of it.  My mom completely panicked and that was the last time that happened.”
