Remember what Mom and Dad said about brushing your teeth when you were a kid? Burhs, then rinse! Well apparently, they were wrong, big time!
“According to experts, rinsing your mouth with water after brushing undoes some of the benefits you get from brushing in the first place.
The best way to ensure you keep your set of pearly whites intact is to brush your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste, spit it out and go about your business.”
“When added to the surface of teeth, fluoride helps strengthen the enamel by protecting against the acid naturally produced by the bacteria that live in the mouth.”
Dentists say that by rinsing, the fluoride in the toothpaste is rinsed off your teeth, making tooth decay much more of a possibility, even with regular oral care.
Dentists still recommend brushing twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening with a fluoride based toothpaste!
For most of us, this may be a shock, considering most people were raised on the “brush, rinse, go to bed” routine, but dentists across America are still suggesting to skip the second part!
