A woman used a live video streaming platform to broadcast herself driving drunk on Saturday, according to the Lakeland Police Department.

Police said they received 911 calls from viewers of Periscope, which is owned by Twitter, about a possible drunken driver using the app to broadcast herself.

Periscope allows people to record video and broadcast it anywhere in the world.

Authorities said that as a result of live stream, numerous text messages were sent to Whitney Beall, 23, asking her to stop driving before she killed someone or herself.

One 911 caller said Beall was driving a Toyota in the north Lakeland area. He said he was watching the video live, but he could not provide a specific location.

Authorities said Beall said several times on Periscope that she was "drunk," and that her car had a flat tire. Investigators also said Beall said she didn't know where she was.

The Lakeland Police Department said it does not provide officers with access to Periscope as an authorized software tool, so they did not have the ability to monitor the driver's actions.

One officer used a personal account in an effort to locate Beall, police said.

Officers said they found Beall's 2015 Toyota Corolla with a flat tire on Carpenters Way.

Investigators said Beall hit a curb as an officer initiated a traffic stop, and she did not hit the brakes after striking the curb.

Officers said they smelled alcohol on Beall, and she was disoriented. Officers said Beall's speech was slow, and her eyes were bloodshot and glassy.

Beall failed standardized field sobriety tests and refused a Breathalyzer test, authorities said.

Beall was arrested on a DUI charge. She was booked into the Polk County Jail.
