The track of Eta has shifted east again with potential landfall as a tropical storm north of Tampa Thursday afternoon. Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says the storm will move slowly to the west of Jacksonville while weakening.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Clay and St. Johns Counties. This means tropical storm conditions (sustained winds of 39 to 73 mph) are possible within the specified area within 48 hours.

On this track, local impacts will be heavy rain bands, gusty winds (not damaging outside of an isolated gust), very isolated tornado or waterspout Thursday night into Friday.

Today we have a few showers and heavy downpours, which will be fringe effects of Eta. Highs will be warm and near record levels. We will reach the mid 80s in Jacksonville this afternoon.
TROPICS: Tropical Storm “Eta” is located west of Key West, Florida. Eta should strengthen some today as it moves north. Eta is forecast to make landfall north of Tampa Thursday night/Friday morning as a tropical storm. We will see some bands of heavy rain and gusty winds as Eta weakens over land into a tropical depression early Friday. We are also tracking tropical storm “Theta” in the Northeast Atlantic. Another tropical disturbance is in the Caribbean and could develop over the next few days. No local impacts.
