Millie, a Jack Russell terrier, disappeared from Hampshire, England, on Jan. 13 and was later spotted during a search in a dangerous area of coastal wetlands. For two days, rescuers worked to find a way to rescue the dog, the BBC reported.

A volunteer organization, Denmead Drone Search & Rescue, began to track Millie for her owner, and posted updates on their attempts to rescue the dog on Facebook. In a Facebook post, rescuers expressed concern about the rising tide, saying, “We were told if Millie wasn’t moved within a few hours she would have been cut off, and the area she was in underwater, with drowning highly likely.”

That’s when a drone pilot suggested attaching food to one of the drones that was being used to track the dog, The Guardian reported. “One of the local residents on the beach where we were flying from supplied us with the sausages — I think they were from Aldi. The woman cooked them up for us and we attached them with a string,” Chris Taylor, the chair of the rescue team, told The Guardian.

Once the dog saw the sausage on the drone, she began to sniff the air and tried to catch it, CNN reported. She followed the sausage and drone off the mud flats and onto safer ground, where she was eventually reunited with her owner, CNN reported.
