ATLANTA — Two boys, ages 13 and 14, are recovering from gunshot wounds after an Atlanta Waffle House customer opened fire on them as they tried to break into his car, authorities said.
According to WSB-TV, the customer also is facing charges in the shooting, which occurred about 10:30 p.m. Monday at a Waffle House on Memorial Drive.
Atlanta police said the customer, 32-year-old Bryant Mayner, was inside the restaurant when three or four teens in another vehicle approached his car, which he had left running in the parking lot, the news outlet reported. Mayner saw one of the teens trying to sneak into his car, rushed outside and opened fire, authorities said.
One witness, a worker who asked not to be identified, told WSB-TV that the teens returned fire and fled.
Police later found two of the teens, both of whom had been shot in the leg, about three miles away at an area gas station, WSB-TV reported. They are facing charges of attempted auto theft and breaking curfew, according to the news outlet.
Police also charged Mayner with aggravated assault, WSB-TV reported.
