Remember when you could just act stupid in public and nobody cared? 😂 Apparently those days are OVER.
A new poll found that 47% of people say the possibility of becoming somebody else’s viral “online content” has made it harder for them to relax and be themselves in public. 📱👀
And honestly… that makes sense. Because EVERYONE has a camera now. You could be having the time of your life at a bar, dancing like nobody’s watching… only to find out the next morning that 14 million people ARE watching. 😭
According to the poll, 31% of people avoid showing strong emotions or opinions in public because they don’t want to end up on camera. Another 30% avoid dancing, while 29% avoid acting silly or telling jokes. 😂
So basically, we’re becoming a society of people standing in the corner at parties like:
“I’d love to dance… but what if somebody posts this?” 💀
Gen Z is the most worried about going viral, which probably isn’t surprising considering they’re the generation most familiar with how quickly something can explode on TikTok. 📲
And this fear is actually affecting people’s social lives.
About 20% of people say they’ve avoided social gatherings with friends, bars, or nightlife because they don’t want to have an unwanted viral moment. 🍻😬
Which is kind of crazy when you think about it.
Imagine skipping your friend’s birthday because you’re worried somebody might record you after three drinks trying to do the Macarena. 😂💃
At this point, you don’t even need to be famous to have a publicist problem.
You just need somebody standing 20 feet away holding an iPhone. 📱😭
So the next time you see someone absolutely losing it on the dance floor… LET THEM
