Community Donates $30K To Buy Ice Cream Truck For Vendor Pushing Cart In Heat

After a viral TikTok showed beloved Tampa-area ice cream vendor Don Tomas pushing his freezer cart in Florida’s brutal summer heat, the internet responded with more than likes — it responded with action.

TikTok creator Bergy Lopez (@wavyybergy1) posted the clip, which quickly racked up over 4 million views. In it, Tomas is seen doing what he’s known for in Plant City: serving up cold refreshing ice cream even in 100-degree heat. The comments were flooded with support and stories from locals praising Tomas for his hustle and heart.

Inspired by the response, Lopez launched a GoFundMe-style fundraiser to help Tomas upgrade from a cart to a real ice cream truck or trailer. And in just one week, nearly $30,000 rolled in from strangers, neighbors, and fans alike.

“I just wanted to help make his job a little easier,” Lopez said. “This man is out here doing honest work every day. The least we can do is give him some shade.”

The success of the fundraiser shows just how powerful a community (and a good TikTok) can be. Thanks to the outpouring of love, Tomas will soon be serving up frozen favorites in a much cooler, more comfortable ride.
