There are a LOT of fake, made-up holidays floating around these days (looking at you, Squirrel Appreciation Day 🐿️🙄). But today? Today actually matters.
It’s NATIONAL DISC JOCKEY DAY 🎙️👏
And January 20th isn’t random. The date honors one of the original DJs, Alan Freed, also known as “Moondog.” He passed away 61 years ago today, in 1965, and he played a huge role in shaping modern music culture.
🎸 Why Alan Freed Matters
Alan Freed helped popularize the term “rock and roll” back in the 1950s, bringing the sound to a wider audience and changing music forever. Because of his impact, he became one of the first people inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when it opened in 1986. Pretty legendary stuff. 🏆
📡 How to Celebrate National Disc Jockey Day
• Take a moment to appreciate your favorite DJs 🎧
• Turn 95.1 WAPE up a little louder 🔊
• Reflect on how awkward the silence would be without us 😌
And hey, if you really want to show appreciation… nothing is stopping you from whipping out your phone 📱 and tuning into 95.1 WAPE via our app free on the app store💸😉
Do it now. Don’t save it for Squirrel Appreciation Day. Because let’s be honest… squirrels don’t need appreciation 🐿️❌They’re just tree rats who destroy bird feeders on purpose.
🎶 Happy National Disc Jockey Day! 🎉
