Be honest...
Is there a drawer, closet, counter, or random corner of your house that’s basically just a graveyard for stuff you don’t know what to do with? 😂
Well, apparently we’re ALL doing it.
IKEA recently released a report about household clutter, and it found some pretty interesting—and VERY relatable—habits.
🍽️ The Kitchen Counter Is Enemy #1
According to the report, 24% of people say their kitchen countertop is the hardest place in the house to keep clutter-free.
You clean it...
Five minutes later:
📬 Mail🔑 Keys🥤 Water bottles📦 Amazon packages🍌 Something nobody remembers putting there
It’s like clutter just respawns. 😂
😳 And Then There’s the Oven
Here’s the statistic that might make you check your kitchen:
10% of people say they’ve used their OVEN for storage. 😳🔥
We’re assuming we’re talking about things like:
🍳 Pots🥘 Pans🍪 Baking sheets
...and NOT old magazines, Pokémon cards, or your collection of Beanie Babies. 😂
Still, maybe check the oven before you preheat it.
🙃 The Silent Protest
Apparently, 38% of people admit to what IKEA calls a “silent protest.”
Basically, you see a mess...
You don’t clean it...
You just leave everything sitting there and hope somebody else eventually gets annoyed enough to deal with it.
Wishful thinking. 😂
🏡 “It’s Not Messy. It’s Lived-In.”
Here’s another interesting one:
59% of people say they’d rather have a “lived-in home” than a minimalist one.
Which is a very polite way of saying:
“Yeah, there’s stuff everywhere, but it has CHARACTER.” 😂
And 82% admit to keeping things purely for sentimental reasons—even if they rarely use them or haven’t seen them in years.
🧹 The Pre-Guest Panic
If you’ve ever had friends say they’re “five minutes away” and suddenly you’re cleaning like you’re about to be inspected by the government...
You’re not alone.
🏠 34% of people say they “shuffle the clutter” before guests arrive.
And 10% have actually canceled plans because their house was too messy. 😳
That’s when you know the pile of laundry has won.
🗃️ The Everything Drawer
Finally, 68% of households have an “everything drawer” or box.
You know the one.
🔋 Random batteries🔑 Mystery keys🔧 Tiny tools🪢 Cords🧾 Receipts❓ Something you swear is important but have absolutely no idea what it does
And apparently, 54% of Boomer men admit to keeping cables for devices they don’t even own anymore.
Because obviously, you might need that cable someday. 😂🔌
🏠 So What’s Your Clutter Vice?
Maybe it’s the junk drawer.
Maybe it’s the kitchen counter.
Maybe it’s the chair that’s supposed to be for sitting but has become a permanent clothing rack. 👕🪑
Or maybe...
You’re one of the 10% storing things in the oven. 😂🔥
Just remember to take them out before dinner.
