Two big changes are coming to the Jacksonville shopping scene — one longtime local staple is closing its doors, while a holiday-themed store is getting ready to make its Jacksonville debut.
Pecan Park Flea Market Closes After 40 Years
After four decades in business, the Pecan Park Flea Market is officially closed.
The flea market closed as of last weekend, September 27, bringing an end to its 40-year run as a spot for Jacksonville shoppers looking for everything from unique finds to everyday deals.
The property was sold earlier this year to the Butler family, which is connected to a Georgia-based automotive group. The site is expected to eventually be redeveloped into an automotive dealership.
The group also owns Butler Toyota Jacksonville on Cassat Avenue.
Spirit Christmas Is Coming to Jacksonville
Meanwhile, there’s a brand-new holiday shopping experience coming to town.
If you love Spirit Halloween, get ready for its festive counterpart: Spirit Christmas.
Spirit Halloween announced the expansion into Christmas-themed stores in 2024, and the concept has been gradually expanding into more states. Now, Florida is getting four Spirit Christmas locations — including one right here in the Jacksonville area.
The Jacksonville-area location will be at 6000 Lake Gray Boulevard, in the former Bealls location near I-295 and Blanding Boulevard, across from the Best Buy.
Spirit Christmas is scheduled to open November 6, although store hours have not yet been announced.
Think of Spirit Halloween, but swap out the skeletons and spooky decorations for everything Christmas.
The store will feature holiday decorations, gifts, inflatables, stocking stuffers, clothing and more.
One of the biggest attractions will be the Candy Cane Express, an almost life-sized Christmas train and caboose that visitors can interact with — including getting behind the controls and steering the train.
There will also be an Arrivals and Departures Terminal, where kids can write letters to Santa and find out whether they’ve made it onto the nice list.
And for anyone who isn’t quite ready to let Halloween go, Spirit Christmas will have a Creepmas section combining the two holidays. Expect merchandise inspired by characters and themes including Ghost Face, Krampus and more.
The other Florida Spirit Christmas locations will be in Winter Garden, Clearwater and Coral Springs.
For Jacksonville, though, the countdown to Christmas shopping officially starts November 6!
