WASHINGTON, D.C. — Jacksonville native Dr. Reuben Brigety II was nominated by President Biden to represent the United States as Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa.

STORY: Jaguars Head Coach Doug Pederson will not settle for anything less than ‘championship-caliber team’

Dr. Brigety is the son of Reuben Brigety, MD, who was one of the first African American graduates of the University of Florida Medical Schools. He went on to serve as a well-known obstetrician in Jacksonville for many years before retiring.

The Brigety family still resides in Jacksonville to this day.

Dr. Brigety II still needs to be confirmed by the Senate before he can take office, but his confirmation is looking likely.
