If you thought your Wi-Fi dropping was annoying… imagine your bed refusing to lie flat. 😅
During the big internet outage earlier this week, a bunch of smart homes turned into not-so-smart homes, and the funniest (and most tragic) example was from people who own Eight Sleep beds.
The company sells smart bed frames that tilt and $2,000 mattress covers that can heat or cool your bed. 💰🔥❄️ Sounds luxurious, until Amazon Web Services (which hosts the tech) crashes and your bed turns into a futuristic recliner you can’t control. 🤖
When AWS went down, it bricked the Eight Sleep system completely. If your bed was in the seated position, that’s how you were sleeping for the night — unless you retreated to the couch. 🛋️
The outage hit around 3:00 a.m. Eastern, so night owls got the worst of it. One frustrated user tweeted, “Would be great if my bed wasn’t stuck in an inclined position.” Another chimed in, “It’s all fun and games until a hacker folds you into a taco.” 🌮💀
(For the record, Amazon says it wasn’t a hack.)
Some users also reported their beds overheating, with one person saying it felt like “sleeping in a sauna.” 🥵
Thankfully, once the servers came back online, everything started working again. Eight Sleep’s CEO says they’re now adding an “outage mode” to make sure it never happens again. 🙏⚙️
Sweet dreams, assuming your bed cooperates. 😴💤
