Over the weekend near Daytona Beach, two lifeguards pulled off what might be the wildest rescue of the summer—and no, it wasn’t a tourist who got too bold with a floatie.
Instead, they sprinted into the ocean to save… a white-tailed deer.
Yep. A deer.
No one’s sure how long the poor thing had been swimming or how it ended up out there, but it was clearly in serious trouble—exhausted and struggling to stay afloat. To make it even crazier? Two sharks were circling.
That’s when lifeguards jumped into action, loading the deer onto a rescue board and getting it safely back to shore. The animal was so wiped out it didn’t even put up a fight. Once on land, they let it go—and it ran off like a scene out of a Disney movie.
Chase Hunter was the lead lifeguard on the save, and he summed it up perfectly:
“Saving lives is what we do—whether it’s a person or an animal with hooves.”
Respect. Also, let’s give Chase an extra shoutout for rocking what reporters called an epic handlebar mustache during the whole thing. 🦸♂️
So next time you’re at the beach, remember—our lifeguards aren’t just watching over swimmers. They’re also out here saving deer from sharks.
