Last week, Deputy Dustin Byers of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office pulled over a driver for speeding — but what happened next is what went viral.

The man explained he was on his way to a funeral, running behind, and struggling to tie his necktie. Instead of simply writing a ticket and moving on, Byers paused to help, tying the man’s tie right there on the side of the road.

The moment was captured in a photo shared by the sheriff’s office, and it’s been liked over 20,000 times — with thousands of people praising the officer for going above and beyond.

“Deputy Byers chose compassion — turning frustration into dignity and stress into support,” one commenter wrote.

Yes, the driver still got the speeding ticket (rules are rules), but the small act of kindness struck a chord with the internet, offering a reminder that humanity can show up when you least expect it — even with flashing lights behind you.

As the department put it best: “Compassion still exists, even on the side of the road.”
