Meet Taylor A. Humphrey — a San Francisco-based “professional baby namer” who calls herself a “name nerd.” And yes, that’s her actual job. Parents are paying her up to $30,000 to come up with the perfect name for their little bundle of joy.
For those who don’t want to blow their kid’s college fund on picking a name, Humphrey also offers a budget-friendly option — a personalized email with name suggestions, complete with meanings, origins, and “vibes” — for the low, low price of $200. 📝✨
Her “VIP treatment” though? That’ll cost you at least $10,000. And what do you get for that? A full-on naming experience: think genealogists digging through family trees, branding strategies, and even a think tank hired just to brainstorm names. Yep… a baby name think tank. 🧠👶
Humphrey says her clients want names that are “uncommon but not weird, simple but not basic, and on-trend but not too trendy.” And with a backlog of clients since her business blew up in 2021, it looks like plenty of parents are more than willing to pay top dollar for that.
Of course, not everyone is impressed. Humphrey admits people make fun of her online. But she shrugs it off: “Well, it is silly. I come up with baby names for a living.”
