Researchers found the so-called “sweet spot” for sexual partners:
- For men, the ideal number is 4 to 5 total, with 2 to 3 being casual hookups.
- For women, it’s 2 to 3 partners total, with about half being casual.
But here’s where it gets tricky: The data comes from Germany, and it reflects what 25-year-olds think is ideal—so let’s be clear, this is their lifetime number… at 25.
The study also shows that people who are moderate in their sex lives get the most social approval. Too much action? You’re judged. No action? Still judged.
Oh—and those old double standards? Still kicking around.
- Men who’ve had less sex than “expected” are judged more harshly than women.
- Women who’ve had more partners than expected? Yeah, they catch heat too—because apparently we’re still stuck in the 1950s.
