Remember when self-checkouts became the new normal, and many were outraged by the idea of “having to scan your own groceries?” Well now, some chains are turning back the clock by REMOVING THEM!
Walmart is the largest chain to incorporate this, removing the self-checkout machines from their stores as an effort to “improve the customer experience.”
“The retailer says that two of its stores - one in Missouri and another in Cleveland, Ohio - are replacing self-checkout areas with staffed lanes to ‘give our associates the chance to provide more personalized and efficient service.’
In reality, many stores are ditching self-checkouts because they are especially vulnerable to theft, an issue which has been forcing some retailers to shut down locations altogether.”
Other larger grocery and shopping chains are following suit; Dollar general has removed the self-checkout, and Target now limits customers to just 10 items when using the self-checkout.
