First Wednesday Art Walk Returns

Jacksonville — After an 18-month hiatus due to Covid 19, First Wednesday Art Walk returns to downtown Jacksonville Wednesday, October 6, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Launched in 2003 by Downtown Vision, Downtown Jacksonville’s Business Improvement District, Art Walk celebrates Jacksonville’s pool of local talent. This year an extended walkway will include three curated art hubs: the James Weldon Johnson Park; The Jessie; and the Vagabond Flea. Guests are encouraged to stroll between all three hubs to enjoy the art, food trucks and retail shops.

“Art Walk is a key part of our mission to promote Downtown Jacksonville as a great place to live, work, visit and invest,” said Katherine Hardwick, Vice President of Marketing for Downtown Vision. “We’re thrilled to relaunch this beloved event—with new partnerships and upgrades to the event experience—to support our local arts scene and showcase all Downtown has to offer.”

According to Hardwick, Downtown Vision has gone above and beyond to triangulate “some really cool things to do.”

“There will be lots of programming and neat things to explore,” she continued. “This year we’ve expanded the footprint to get people to walk to the restaurants and businesses.”

The monthly, rain or shine event will be jam-packed with art of all mediums - paintings, jewelry, pottery, ceramics, woodwork and more in betwixt and between food trucks; a kid zone; poetry readings and an open mic with Love Reigns; the noted Art Walk fan favorite band The Fire Water Tent Revival; and singer Bethany La Roche.

“We have a little bit of something for everyone,” concluded Hardwick.

Art Walk attendees can also tap into dtjax.com/artwalk , a mobile-friendly, interactive event map that highlights the evening’s events. The Downtown Vision website also features the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville’s public art map, which plots the locations of Downtown’s murals, mosaics, sculptures and more.

Go Tuk’n Tours urban transportation service is available for transporting attendees to and from Art Walk and Riverside, Avondale and Murray Hill.

Masks are encouraged but no required.
