Hurricane Michael: Local closures, cancellations, resources

Jacksonville, FL — As NE Florida feels fringe effects from Hurricane Michael, local organizations and institutions are closing early and cancelling events. Here is a running list of closures and cancellations:

Duval County: 

Duval County Public Schools has cancelled after school activities including sports and clubs.  However, Extended Day programs will operate as normal.

Florida State College at Jacksonville is closing campuses and centers today at 4pm.  A decision regarding reopening will be announced by 6am on Thursday.

Jacksonville University is closing its campus at 3pm today. All classes and outdoor events have been cancelled the main campus and JU Downtown.  Campus will resume normal activity at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

The University of North Florida is operating as normal through the day on Wednesday.

Edward Waters College is closing at 4:30PM and all evening classes are canceled Wednesday

Clay County: 

Clay County Public Schools has cancelled after school activities, however the YMCA After School Program will not be affected.

St. Johns County:

A spokesperson for the St. Johns County Public Schools says all activities, including after school events, are running on schedule.

Beach driving is restricted through Thursday county-wide.

Parks and Rec has cancelled all activities at County Parks and Community Centers Wednesday night

Baker County: 

Baker County Public Schools are closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

WEDNESDAY UPDATE: Emergency Management says they closed the shelters--- Shelters are open at Ed Fraser Hospital at North 3rd Street in Macclenny, and at Macclenny Elementary School on Wild Kitten Drive.

Nassau County: 

So far, Nassau County Public Schools has not announced any changes in its after school activities.

County and city beaches are closed in Nassau County.
