Jacksonville, Florida — The Jacksonville Transit Authority steps up to help Duval students with a free expanded bus fare program. This is an effort to alleviate the recent school bus delays for Duval County students.
JTA Board members unanimously approved a permanent expansion of its My Ride To School program for Duval students, by granting all-day access to free bus rides from Monday through Sunday.
David Cawton, JTA’s Communications Director, says the launch of My Ride to School at the beginning of the year has already helped thousands of students
Cawton says, “What we saw was more than 40,000 trips provided to students, which told us that the demand was there and also told us that students and families need a little bit more flexibility in the program.”
JTA’s pilot program called My Ride To School began earlier this year and is spreading its wings to include access year-round to students from middle school up to college.
“Also, we’ve expanded our university ridership program, so now college students can download the pass every semester and ride our services for free as well,” Cawton says.
JTA’s goal is to help provide a safe free travel method for students all year long.
“With both of these programs, students can ride during all hours of our services - seven days a week, whether or not school is in session or not,” Cawton says.
