Plans proposed to transform former Lucky’s Market plaza in Neptune Beach

Tuesday, Margi Petitt told Action News Jax she has watched businesses come and go from an almost empty plaza on Atlantic Boulevard in Neptune Beach for 25 years.

She described, “Neptune, I think has a way to go, and this is the perfect example of what I think needs to be beautified.”

Action News Jax reported in January when the building’s former tenant, Lucky’s Market, announced it was shutting down.

“I was really sorry to see it go. I was surprised because it was always busy when I was there,” explained Petitt.

Plans obtained by Action News Jax show a face-lift for the plaza and a new Publix, even though the supermarket giant already has a location a few hundred feet away.

The project outlines a new store concept with a focus on prepared food and organic groceries, that allows shoppers to order beer and wine.

Petitt said, “I think that’s a great idea, because that’s what they’ll draw from what was here at Lucky’s.”

The Community Development Board was set to talk about the project on Wednesday.

If approved, Petitt said she hopes the renovations will trickle down to the old Big K building next door.

“I think it could really escalate values. I know a lot of people are fighting it but they’re fight their own values,” said Petitt.
