WOKV’s Consumer Warrior Clark Howard says airline travel is ‘a shadow of its former self’, layoffs likely

WOKV’s Consumer Warrior Clark Howard says more trouble appears to be brewing for the travel industry due to the ongoing impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The travel industry is having a rougher time than virtually any other industry, because, overwhelmingly, people don’t feel like it’s safe to get on an airplane. So, airplane travel is running as a shadow of its former self,” says Howard.

Howard says this means issues for those who work in the industry.

"Airlines had a special deal from grants from the federal government that prevented them from laying off people until the fall. And now, airline workers are going to be laid off by the tens of thousands it looks like. It's going to be an ugly picture," Howard explains.

While this is grim news for those working in the travel industry, Howard says there continues to be good news for those who are looking to travel despite concerns surrounding the pandemic.

“Travelers that are willing to go, are going to continue to see really great deals. So, it’s hazard with opportunity if you do want to travel somewhere,” says Howard.
