If youβre still living at homeβ¦ yeah, youβre definitely not alone.
A new study shows that about 1 in 3 young adults (ages 18β34) are currently living with their parentsβand that number has been going up in recent years π
π The numbers donβt lie
Right now, around 33% of young adults in the U.S. are living at home.
For comparison? Back in 1960, it was only about 22%.So yeahβ¦ big difference π³
The numbers actually peaked during the pandemic when everything shut down and people moved back home fastβbut even now, things havenβt dropped back down much.
πΈ Soβ¦ whatβs the reason?
No surprise hereβit mostly comes down to money.
- Rent is high π’
- Houses are expensive π‘
- Wages havenβt kept up π°
So for a lot of people, staying at home just makes the most sense right now.
πΊοΈ Where itβs most common
Some states are seeing WAY higher numbers than others:
- New Jersey β 44% π³
- Connecticut β 41%
- California β 39%
πΎ Where itβs less common
Meanwhile, these states have the lowest percentages:
- North Dakota β 12%
- Wyoming β 16%
- South Dakota β 18%
π€ The reality
Living with your parents used to feel like a βfailureβ to some peopleβ¦ but now? Itβs becoming way more normal.
Honestly, in this economy, it might even be the smart move π
So if youβre saving money, figuring things out, or just enjoying home-cooked meals a little longerβyouβre in good company π
