Jacksonville is in the middle of a major glow-up, and two projects are leading the way downtown. The longtime Museum of Science and History (MOSH) is set to be replaced with a brand-new, expanded version that will be over 100,000 square feet larger, featuring a planetarium, digital dome, and rooftop river views. While the current MOSH holds a lot of memories for locals, the new space is designed to bring bigger, more interactive experiences for families, students, and the entire community.

Even though the original MOSH building is getting demolished, erupting in its place will be 15-story riverfront Marriott Hotel to accommodate and the surrounding hospitals and regular downtown visitors.

At the same time, the new Riverfront Plaza is transforming the downtown riverfront into a true gathering place. The nine-acre space will include an event lawn, rooftop playground, beer garden, and room for future cafes — plus a large-scale landmark sculpture that could become a defining symbol of Jacksonville. Together, these projects show the city leaning into its future, creating spaces that connect people, celebrate the river, and give Jacksonville a fresh new energy.
