Today is National Dinosaur Day π¦π β a day dedicated to the giant creatures that ruled Earth millions of years ago... and apparently a reminder that some adults forgot everything they learned in elementary school π
A recent poll asked more than 1,000 Americans how many dinosaurs they could name off the top of their heads.
The results? Not exactly Jurassic Park-level knowledge π¬
π¦ How many dinosaurs can people name?
When asked how many they thought they could name:
- 9% said zero π³
- 8% said one
- 13% said two
- 19% said three
- 13% said four
- 25% claimed five or more
- And 7% said they could name 10 or more dinosaurs π€
Honestly... if you canβt come up with at least a T-Rex, we need to have a conversation π
π Then came the real test...
Researchers didnβt just take peopleβs word for it.
They actually had participants write down all the dinosaurs they could think of.
And suddenly confidence started going extinct π¦π¨
π Most people overestimated themselves
The study found:
- 84% named fewer dinosaurs than they predicted
- 15% matched their prediction
- Only 2% managed to name MORE than they expected π
Even better...
16% of people who claimed they could name at least one dinosaur ended up drawing a complete blank π

Only about 2% of participants successfully named 10 or more dinosaurs.
Researchers say those people are probably one of three things:

ποΈ Museum employees or teachers
