If your kid’s backpack smells like old yogurt and crushed field trip forms… you’re probably in May. And you’re probably stressed.
According to a new poll, May might be the most chaotic time of year to be a parent — even worse than Christmas or back-to-school season.
Why? Because the stress of summer starts creeping in about 28 days before the school year ends. And with summer camp sign-ups, vacation planning, sports schedules, and snack-stocking — the calendar becomes your enemy.
👀 By the Numbers: A Parent’s Week in May
Here’s how your week breaks down, according to the survey:
- 22% Working
- 14% Sleeping (…barely)
- 13% Eating or making food
- 10% Playing Uber for your kids
- 9% Making summer plans (aka panic Googling “cheap day camps near me”)
- 8% Time for yourself (Myth)
Your kid’s school year is ending… and your side hustle as a camp director is beginning.
And it doesn’t exactly get better once summer starts. A third of parents said they probably won’t have a single stress-free day all summer. Meanwhile, your kid’s biggest concern is whether the pool has snacks.
So is May the hardest month for parents? If you’ve got 23 tabs open for swim lessons, karate, and “easy summer dinner ideas” — then yes. 100%.
Hang in there, parents. Summer vacation isn’t really a vacation for you... but at least you might get a tan while spiraling.
