Actor Jonathan Joss, known for voicing John Redcorn on King of the Hill and for playing Chief Ken Hotate on Parks and Recreation, was shot and killed in what his husband is calling a hate crime.
He was 59.
The shooting happened Sunday night in San Antonio, outside what was left of Jonathan’s childhood home — a home that tragically burned down back in January, killing one of their beloved dogs.
According to his husband, Tristan, the couple had faced years of threats and homophobia from neighbors. And when they went to check the mail that day, they discovered something chilling: the skull and harness of their dog, deliberately placed in plain sight.
Understandably heartbroken, they were crying when a man began shouting anti-gay slurs at them. Moments later, he pulled a gun and opened fire.
Jonathan was hit multiple times. Tristan says Jonathan pushed him out of the way and saved his life.
“I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved,” Tristan said in a statement.
The man who pulled the trigger, 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, has been arrested and charged with murder.
Fans may still hear Jonathan’s voice again — he had already recorded some work for the upcoming King of the Hill reboot, though it’s unclear how it will be used moving forward.
This is a heartbreaking loss — not just for fans of his work, but for a man who clearly lived with love and bravery to the very end.
