Oxford Dictionary has spoken — and their 2025 Word of the Year is something you probably encounter every five minutes online…
👉 “RAGE BAIT.” Yep. The internet finally got its own personality type. 😂
They define it as: “Online content deliberately designed to elicit anger or outrage by being frustrating, provocative, or offensive.” Basically… the entire comment section of Facebook. 😬💬
The term is being used three times more than it was last year, but it’s not new — the first recorded use was back in 2002, when someone used it to describe a tailgater flashing their lights like they WANT you to lose it. 🚗💡😡
And grammar nerds are currently rage-baited by the fact that the Word of the Year……is actually two words. 🤓✏️(That’s irony you don’t have to scroll for.)
The shortlist also included:🔹 Biohack – boosting your physical or mental performance using drugs, supplements, or tech🔹 Aura farming – building a cool, charismatic online persona
But “rage bait” took the crown. 👑🔥Which feels pretty accurate for 2025.
