FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — The Nassau County Public Library System will adjust its operating schedule in October 2026, which includes ending Saturday service at the Fernandina Beach Branch Library and permanently closing the Bryceville Branch Library.
The schedule changes begin Oct. 1, 2026, when Saturday operations cease at the Fernandina Beach location, followed by the closure of the Bryceville branch on Oct. 29, 2026. All other Nassau County Public Library branches will continue to operate under their September 2026 hours.
Despite the end of weekend service, weekday operating hours at the Fernandina Beach Branch Library will stay the same. The branch will remain open Monday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Bryceville Branch Library will keep its regular operating schedule until its final day of operation. After that, library workers are preparing an outdoor locker system at the site. Readers will be able to place a hold on items by logging into their online library accounts, and library staff will deliver readers’ requested materials to the outdoor locker.
Users will be notified when their items are ready for pickup. The facility’s outdoor book drop will also stay open for returning borrowed materials.
The reason behind the closures was posted on the Nassau County Public Library System’s Facebook page. It said, “These changes are part of a broader review of Nassau County’s library operations aimed at ensuring resources are being used effectively and services are aligned with the needs of the community. This review considered factors such as facility usage, staffing, operating costs, service hours and geographic coverage.”
